Let’s understand articles:

“A” and “An”

  • Indefinite Articles: “A” and “an” are used to refer to a non-specific item or one of many. They are called indefinite articles because they don’t specify which noun you are talking about.
    • “A”: Used before words that begin with a consonant sound.
      • Example: a cat, a dog, a hat
    • “An”: Used before words that begin with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
      • Example: an apple, an elephant, an ice cream

2. “The”

  • Definite Article: “The” is used to refer to a specific item that both the speaker and the listener know about. It is called a definite article because it specifies a particular noun.
