Subtraction with borrowing (or regrouping) means the digits in a column of the top number are smaller than those in the corresponding column of the bottom number. With the worksheets kids will be able to to master subtraction with borrowing through practice as well as help kids to understand the concept of regrouping and apply it effectively.
Steps for Subtraction with Regrouping
- Write the Numbers Vertically:
- Align the numbers by place value (tens and ones).
- Start with the Ones Place:
- If the top digit is smaller than the bottom digit, borrow 1 from the tens place.
- Add 10 to the ones place of the top number.
- Subtract the Ones:
- Subtract the adjusted top digit from the bottom digit in the ones place.
- Move to the Tens Place:
- Subtract the tens digits, remembering to reduce the top tens digit if borrowing occurred.
