The story of a farmer and the well teaches us that cheating is never good.
A farmer was once the buyer of a man’s well. When the farmer attempted to retrieve water from that well the following day, the man forbade him from doing so. “You cannot acquire water from the well because I offered you the well, not the water,” he added.
The farmer went to the Emperor’s palace after becoming quite depressed. He gave the Emperor a detailed account of everything and demanded justice.
Birbal was called by the Emperor, who then gave him this case. Birbal contacted the individual who had sold the farmer the well. “Why don’t you let him use the well’s water?” inquired Birbal. He has purchased the well from you.
” In response, the guy said, “Birbal, I have sold him the well—not the water. It is not his place to take water from the well.
“Good, but look, because you have sold the well to this farmer and you believe that water is yours, then you have no permission to keep your water in his well,” Birbal said with a smile. You can either quickly remove your water from the farmer’s well or pay him rent to keep it there.
The man realized his cunning plan had backfired. He has been outwitted by Birbal.
